Happy Halloween everyone!

We love this holiday around our house!  My hubby would keep the Halloween decorations up all year `round if I let him!  LOL  This is also the first year trick or treating with DD, she is going to have a blast!  I expect the sugar coma from all the candy to hit by about 8 pm....  ;) 
I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!  Watch out for the little ghouls and goblins when you are out and about tonight, and if you have little ghouls and goblins yourself, make sure they have their glosticks/flashlights/reflective tape so they can be seen!

What Stores Double Coupons in Vermont/New Hampshire/New England?

The title of this post is the second most searched for subject that land people at my little home on the Net here at VTCouponer, so I figured I'd put a rundown of the stores I cover and their doubling:

Price Chopper - Policy was changed over the summer that ALL Price Chopper stores now double manufacturer coupons to $.99.  They do not double $1 coupons any longer.

Shaw's - They double up to $.99 here also, manufacturer coupons only.

Hannaford - Does not double any coupons.

Grand Union - I believe GU followed suit with PC and now all stores only double to $.99 and they don't double $1 at any store.  This is the only store that doesn't have a coupon policy posted, so always safest to check with your local store as policy seems to vary from store to store in this chain.

Kinney Drugs, Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart - None of these double coupons.

Hope that helps the folks searching for a store that doubles in Vermont and/or New England!  :)

PS - Quick explanation on "doubling to $.99":  There are two kinds of doubling, here in New England the stores seem to all do what is called a "true double", so a $.50 coupon is doubled to $1, a $.75 coupon is doubled to $1.50, a $.99 coupon (if you ever find one!  LOL) would be doubled to $1.98, but a $1 or higher value coupon is taken at face value, no extra.

I have noticed in my blog stats that my old post "Can You Extreme Coupon in Vermont / New Hampshire / New England" gets the most hits out of any other page here.  I guess people don't believe that you can do that kind of thing here in the North East US!  LOL  Well, I'm here again to assure you that you can.  Now, that said, will you start getting groceries for your entire house for $10 tomorrow?  No.  Can you save hundreds if not thousands of dollars over what you are spending now?  Yes.

Basically you have to retrain yourself on how you shop.  You shop the deals along with your necessities, build a stockpile of things that you and/or your family uses when they are super cheap or free so you don't have to ever buy them at full price.  Before you know it, you have a good stock of the necessities built up and you don't have to buy the same things week after week.  For example, laundry detergent.  We all need it and use it, right?  So last time I found a free deal on laundry detergent, I got 20 of them.  It is now over a year later and I haven't had to buy laundry detergent once, and I still have a few left so I am starting to search for another free or cheap deal to replenish my stock.  Make sense?

Grand Union Coupon Policy:

There isn't a coupon policy posted online anywhere for Grand Union.  I have also asked for a printed one from my store and they say they don't have one to print out or hand out.  From my experience and from what I see in the different regional weekly ads from GU, they double manufacturers coupons up to $.99 at all stores, but PLEASE call ahead to double check at your store as policies may differ from region to region.  I have also never encountered any doubling limits at Grand Union, such as number of like coupons, amount of savings, or total over all coupons used.  Again, always make sure to double check at your store as policies at the same chain can vary from store to store.

Sorry for disappearing for a few weeks... I AM alive! LOL

I don't know if anyone even stops by here anymore since I've been MIA for about 2 months...  LOL  Sorry for falling off the face of the earth for a while, but really a majority of it was out of my control!  ;)

August was a blur anyway, between family gatherings/visits, weddings, birthdays, and the usual summer hoopla, the month just disappeared before my eyes.  It seemed like we had something going on every day.  Then Mother Nature decided to swoop in and change our upcoming plans for about 3 weeks.

We happen to live in one of the towns in the "Vermont 13", the 13 Vermont communities that were completely cut off when Hurricane Irene decided to visit our beautiful state at the end of August.  We were without power, phone, water, and even cell service for a week after the storm.  Top that off with no passable roads in or out of town, in any direction, and you've got the last month of our lives.  We did not leave the one mile of intact road in our town for three weeks.  The road to the North... a 50 ft chasm in the road where a bridge used to be.  The road to the South... simply GONE.  Nine houses in our very small town (population 427) were completely destroyed and countless others damaged.  Thankfully, no lives were lost in our town, and injuries were minimal, so very happy for that fact.

So here we are finally reconnecting to the outside world and getting back to "normal".  HUGE thank you to the state and town officials, road crews, military members, and volunteers that flocked to our aid and proved that Vermonters can do anything they put their mind to!  :)  The reopening of the roads that were completely wiped out within 3 weeks after the storm is nothing short of incredible!  Thank you doesn't even begin to express our gratitude.

So the matchups will be coming regularly again, apologies for the interruption, Irene had other plans for us!  hehe  Glad to be back and glad to finally be able to get to the stores again!  Let's go shopping for deals!  :)
